Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
G'day all, my name's Carl - I hail from the Riverland in sunny South Australia.
Here's an updated version of what I posted on the 'official' Blackstar forum for those not on there or didn't see it...
I'm 33 and started playing drums at 12 and guitar a little bit after that, so nearly 20 years now, geez I feel like an old bugger after writing that. Also play the bass (mediocre though) and piano/keyboard.
I've joined the Blackstar ranks with the recent delivery of a HT-20H and 2 112HTV cabs the other week thanks to the speedy service of Ollie at Drumpower there in Melbourne. I almost brought a Marshall Haze 15, being a Marshall devotee... was ready to part the cash at a local music shop here in the Riverland but went to plug in a guitar and have a play and it didn't even turn on! I had read of reliability issues with them but that one takes the cake.
Now that I've had my HT-20 for a few weeks I've formulated an opinion on it now, it's awesome!! Really starting to dig the sounds I'm getting out of it.
As for the twangsticks - see post in Galley section under guitars: https://blackstarforum.forumactif.com/gallery-amps-guitars-pedals-members-dogs-f15/show-your-guitars-t35.htm#105
I play weekly in a church band setting, mainly contemporary rock type stuff and also head up a band which do concerts a couple times a year in local town halls for the youth... on the side I play blues/jazz type stuff with a few local guys and get small gigs here and there. Also like cranking it up and play metal with another group of young guys just for fun.
I'm also setting up a recording studio in the back room of the house, still learning the ropes with it all but getting there slowly, have most of the equipment now, just need to work on a soundproof space... my intention is to get more into writing music and recording it. I'm also working out a deal with a local video producer to create music and backing tracks for a documentary style series he's about to start on and he's also looking at adding television commercials to their services next year so might be some work there writing and recording for TV ads. I've also made the studio and my services available for local musicians and song writers to come in and record demos and what not... it's mainly just a hobby thing for now, no real intention to make any money or see any fame out of it.
The Beast!!
Cheers
Carl

Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
hi,carl i'm from newcastle nsw,i got my ht20 combo from a music store in sydney,i love it,i too have gone away from the fender/marshall vibe,i can get really nice fender clean's and the marshall gain with this little beauty, and i have tried nearly all the fenders and marshalls,jcm800,900,dsl401,i'm loving my unit,it's a little heavy, but not too bad,i can live with it just for the sound it produces.

Heavy as in rock on or heavy as in weight:?: I was using a Marshall AVT100 before and it was a real pain in the neck (or should that be back? ), nearly 30kg and I got sick of lugging it around from home to practice back home and back again on a Sunday each week... so I went with the head and cabs this time around - leave one cab at home, one at the church and just transport the head around and when gig time comes up then drag the two cabs together!

Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
carl,as in weight i think they are the same as a fender hotrod deluxe 21.5 kg,but yeah a lot better than my jcm's they were like 30+kg
Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
Nice... I guess one of the good things with the weighty Marshall's is that they give you the impression that they're built solid and like a tank!!
But I think I'll give the larger combo's a miss for a while, getting too old (or is it lazy?) to be carrying them around, I'll stick to my 13kg head for now!!
Plus there's the coolness factor of that full stack, albeit mini'd down! LOL! You have to admit that looks pretty cool Mmmm, whose ya daddy...

Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !

For the weight..i have now two combos for ...35-37 kg each...impossible to move even with my huge musculature...
I'll have to find another Blackstar more movable !
And yes the HT5 stack is very cool, i even prefer the new limited one but don't know if it will be available here in France...
re: Hello
Hi everyone, I'm Gary, from Alabama U.S.A. and I must say, THIS forum seems to be very professionally assembled !
I like the corporate forum, and I think i'll like this one as well.
I'm 46, and have been playing for 35 years, and although I now play 90% electric Blues, i've played several genres in the past, including a stint as lead man for an "almost bigtime" Hair Metal band named Calamity Jane (NOT the folk trio that now use the name).
My HT-5H is currently my only Blackstar product, but I LOVE it!! And I plan on purchasing something a little larger in the future.
I've had Marshalls, Fenders, Voxs, and several "off brand" amps, My HT-5 is my favorite small amp.
I'm (slowly) researching a suitable Blackstar replacement for my ancient (pre-Japan/"Made in Great Britain") 105w Univox 4ch stack.
I'll set up my profile & such later, but i'm a nightshifter and it's my bedtime.

Hi Gary,
very nice to have you here !
You will be able to promote your band, show your pictures, make some reviews of your gear...we are trying to set up a nice and friendly place were each member can propose and do what he likes...and not only on blackstar products even if the mean goal is to have a huge database of resources on this !
thanks again !
Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
This is a nice idea. It provides more personal information than the profile and makes it all so much more intimate and cozy .
I play in, Jurassic Rock, a rock 'n' roll functions band and, as can be seen elsewhere, I'm keen on Patrick Eggle guitars and so I'm the Global Moderator of the forum Patrick Eggle Guitars - the Legendary years.
If anyone is interested, more personal details can be found on my profile page on the Jurassic Rock website (click here). If you follow the link on that page and further browsing will provide more of an insight into the band.

Re: Hello ! Here you can introduce yourself !
Nice ! Welcome !
Bon choix.... (Good choice...)
It's maybe the most versatile of the HT range. Cheap (for such a good amp, not too heavy, powerful but still usable in a room...).
If it was available in a head format, i would have one...
