Giannini Guitars (Brazil)

Post by MusashiChan on Sat Jun 12, 2010 2:14 pm

Here is what i've found this morning for 40€ (56AUS$) in a vacuum-attic (is it the right word ???) :

A wonderful Giannini AWS 570, very rare to find from 1973...it not seems to be solid wood in the catalog but it's not clear...and it sounds really really nice !!! Even much better than my Larrivée...

Nice finds there!!! Not sure what you mean by a 'Vacuum attic'... is that a shop that sells old second hand stuff?

If so then here in oz they're just second hand shops or op shops.

Another big thing in oz is garage sales - private sales where people open up their carport/driveway/shed and put stuff they don't want anymore for people to walk in and bargain for. There can be some great buys to be found for instruments if you can get in early and the sellers don't know what they're selling. I heard once of a young couple in a town I was living in who were selling off all their grandparents stuff after they passed away and sold off Grandpa's old 59' Gibson for $50... apparently it was in top condition too.

I haven't been in secondhand shop for years, don't see too many around anymore. There's the big Cash Converters chain store here but their prices are stupid and I've been burnt a few times with dodgy stuff from them.

So did you buy the Giannini?

Oh yeah it was a "garage sales", we call it "vide grenier" here (attic sales ??).
The woman didn't know anything about guitars and i bought it of course.
It's not the deal of the century but i'm happy it's the first time i find something in those.
Spring is the season for those private sales and we are going every week end. It's nice to find wood toys for our baby, things for my wife, but never for me Very Happy
The Giannini sounds very very nice, it blows a lot of modern dreadnought in shop...even top ones.
The only thing is that the scale lenght is pretty short and the string tension is hard, have to put a extra light set on it ! My fingers are bleeding !
